  • Still quite fallish here although the leaves have really come off in droves in the last week or two. This morning I caught a glimpse of a flock of "something" flying past the kitchen window and then realized that it was a huge gust of leaves...not birds. We have a lot of birds migrate through because we back up to a wetland which makes a convenient resting spot on the long trek south...funny to see a herd of leaves rushing past though, all animated as if they were intent on making it south too. All the leaves are gold and brown now, little to no red left and even some of the oaks are letting leaves go although I know many of them will hold on through the winter and be pushed out for good by the emerging leaflets next year.

I am trying to remind myself that I really need to bring in and clean out and store the cooler that I left on the back deck. I also need to stash in the attic: the sand toys, the pool floaties, the picnic goods, my gardening supplies box, the tricycle, the scooter, the pumpkin carving tools, and all the extra canning jars that I am not going to fill this year. Time for other things. I am starting to shop for Christmas gifts and have begun thinking about plotting a holiday party and accumulating my list of Christmas card recipients. This year I really mean to get them sent. I should also bake my fruitcake sometime very soon so that it will have time to age in the refrigerator before we pack up for our sojourn to the snowy north for celebrating and merriment.

I have still not begun a knitting project for our baby. All those hats emptied my brain of ideas somehow. I plan to force myself to start something soon though, although there are good chances that I will get sidetracked with Christmas gifts on my sticks instead. We'll see what falls out...

Reuben and Gideon are fast friends these days which means they argue about the normal little things but they're also best pals, favored playmates and giggling partners. I love coming upon little tableaus like Reuben with Gideon tucked under his arm, "reading" him his favorite books or Gideon playing along and trying to imitate for his brother the dialogue for games like Simon Says or tag. Much fun to watch them evolve and grow together. People are communal, there's no two ways about it in my mind, and watching the boys together confirms the fact that we are meant to have each other and not to be alone.

I am already finishing up my first jar of prenatal multivitamins and it is time to order another! Hard to believe that we've passed into the second trimester now in some ways...time does fly on...

Congratulations on a new trimester! And may it be everything everyone always celebrates about the second trimester: happy, energetic, and glowing!

Isn't it so great to see your kids loving each other? I think that's one of my greatest joys as a Mommy.

what a great thing to live near where the birds are migrating! Especially for one who loves all things botanical and beyond! Love the story about the kids. I can just picture them hanging out together! This is a time that you will remember always!

Yes it's fun to watch the little ones playing together. It won't be long and we can all be together in one lovely wiggly hoard of confusion and turkey!!!!!
